This is an Oak railing I did For Peterson Builders back in 2003. It is all Red Oak balusters rail and shoes. It has false treads and risers on both sides of the steps. The large radius on the upper floor was cut on a CNC machine. I was able to watch the railing and the shoe being cut out on the CNC machine. It was pretty cool to see the head on the machine twist and turn and go to the wall and grab a different bit. What was nice about it was the rail and the shoe don't have any of the lines that a traditional bent railing has. It's all one solid piece.
All in all it was a fun project.
